I've been following this story for quite a while now but withheld from posting it because I wasn't sure if it was the proper timing.

Rede Globo will officially sell/distribute its novelas on DVD in 2010. O Clone was an extremely likely candidate to be the first one to be sold but it lost to a novela that was produced in 1970s called "Roque Santeiro."

According to the article they have "trimmed" the story line (Roque Santeiro's) to make the novela shorter and more to the point. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I hope O Clone is sold in its entire format without any editing. I wouldn't mind paying a little extra.

Anyway, the good news is that Rede Globo is FINALLY releasing its novelas on DVD. They know that O Clone is in HIGH demand and it would be extremely stupid of them not to release this on DVD.

My hopes are pretty high. I have a feeling that we will have the official O Clone DVD in the next 2 years (sooner I hope ).

On a similar note, as a part of the deal for remaking O Clone, Telemundo put an embargo on Rede Globo which restricts them from selling the original O Clone to other networks for the next 5 years . This doesn't bother me as long as they are releasing the official DVD .

What do you guys think? Should we be hopeful? How much money would you be willing to pay for an official copy of O Clone? I would pay up to 200 US dollars...without even thinking about it, lol.

They are in Portoguese but an online translator should do the trick.

I guess I should have imagined it was only a matter of time until they started to release soaps as well. But it's good news, indeed. I'm sure many people would like to be able to watch their favourite moments of the show in top notch quality.

And since I'm in a translating mood, here's the English version of both articles (thankies for the links, kheops!).

Former article:

"Roque Santeiro" will be the first soap released on DVD.

“Roque Santeiro” will be Globo’s first soap released on DVD. The idea is to summarize the main characters’ story so that it doesn’t turn out that long. The soap “O Bem-Amado” will soon be released. “O Clone” was considered for being the first, but lost to the unforgettable story of Dias Gomes.

Latter article:

“O Clone” is the highest rated soap to be the first released on DVD. Starring Giovanna Antonelli and Murilo Benício and written by Gloria Perez, the story was a great success. The series “O Bem Amado”, with Paulo Gracindo, and the humorous “Viva o Gordo”, with Jô Soares, are also among the next releases.

For the record, I've heard of none of the aforementioned shows, so I suppose they must be quite old. Or, y'know, my knowledge of Globo shows apart from "O Clone" just lacks.

Your welcome, Azhal .

And thank YOU for that awesome translation. The online translators are "ok" and I had to assume a few things from the article. But now I have no doubts!

I am really excited because no matter how you look at it, it is a step forward into getting O Clone in HD quality. In this manner, we will be able to have this "gem" in our collection.

As for the other titles, I too don't recognize them. They do look pretty old though.

I would love for them to release Pantanal (I heard a rumor that they are planning a remake of this...lol), Xica da Silva, and Sete Mulheres (I should be watching this one soon.... ), Caminho das Indias would be pretty cool too!

Sure thing, I'm glad I could help!

Indeed, watching it in HD would simply rock!

Oooh! I remember watching Sete Mulheres! I liked it a lot: it had a very nice story, full of drama and romance, as well as excellent actors.

There are soooooo many Globo "gems" that they need to release on DVD. I'm glad that O Clone is being considered as one of the first ones to be released. To be honest, this is the only one that I TRULY care about, lol. If they do happen to release the other novelas then I would feel extremely spoiled.

I'm going to make another topic for "Globo Novelas" that way we won't spam this one with off topic messages, haha!

I believe that the most important aspect they're taking into consideration at the moment is how successful this DVD release is going to be. If it sells, I'm sure there will be lots more soaps coming out soon!

That thread sounds like an awesome idea! *skips around merrily, then goes to find it*

I hope that the DVD that they are going to release does well, so that Globo will have more of an incentive to release more of their novelas (like Azhal mentioned).

I am not sure if this is the right thread for it, but on my epic journey in finding everything O Clone I have come accross a website that has a near DVD quality of the entire O Clone in its original language--without subtitles.

This should satisfy my quenching thirst for at least a couple of more months just incase they decide not to release it

EDIT: Oclone, if people ask me what the website is am I allow to post it here?

Thank you for sharing. I am also watching this soap in portugues. Though, it would be nice if they can translated into Spanish or English. They are now showing this soap the USA on the Telmundo Channel during the evenings. Though, the actors are different. To bad the DVD is not out yet. I have been on the WEB search to see who is selling the product. So far, no luck. On Weekends, I try to watch as much as possible. Who knows what the sales market is going to look like. Who is going to venture from this lovely soap. I enjoy watching this on my computer. But, in You Tube, the are times that it freezes up.

I hope someone out there in the int'l Soap, can let us in the USA, Eastern Time, know where or when this Telenolva will start to sales. Though, I will not pay $200.00 in USA $$$. That is crazy. I can wait until Amazaon.Com will put it out.

Good Luck everyone.

Should there be new info on this, I believe you would find it on the official Globo site, linked by Kheops in the first post of this thread.
